Depression: DISCONNECTION

The term:  mental health bothers me. I would say that “true health” is a sense of overall wellbeing - mental, physical, emotional or spiritual.

There are so many reasons why someone is unwell, but current systems just tend to look at symptoms and forget the rest of the person, while all of the above is interconnected.

When someone doesn’t feel well in their mind, their thoughts, they usually have a reason that is deep in their lives / story / experiences that have not been processed. There are beliefs that need to be transformed or changed, also we may have not learnt about who they are, about others and how to truly connect with their inner voice, their family, friends and everything that is alive.

The mind is very powerful and signs that is not going well, mean that is trying to tell us: something needs to change. It affects our health, our weight, our relationships, our work, our creativity disappears, we get “stuck”.

We have disconnected from what these signs mean and how to deal with them in a sustainable manner.

Mental Disease

When we face challenges and we cannot deal with them, this signifies that we need to grow emotionally, mentally and spiritually. There are many ways to do this, and it usually requires assistance from someone who has done it already and to be willing to try different avenues to find what best suits.

Examples include:
  • Challenging your thoughts and beliefs
  • Practicing meditation, mindfulness (being present) and self-reflection (stillness) to raise self-awareness
  • Talking to someone who has learnt to identify patterns and can bring light to them
  • Reading personal development (PD) books and blogs
  • Joining retreats and PD workshops
  • Learning to “hack” your brain to break old patterns
  • Getting comfortable with discomfort
  • Getting out in nature
  • Moving / practicing some kind of exercise
  • Learning effective communication skills
  • Getting in flow
  • Laughing
  • Learning to be authentic and share yourself with others
  • Mentoring others what you have learnt
